The Marlboro Township Police Public Safety Cadets is open to students between the ages of 14 – 21 who are interested in learning more about law enforcement. One of our main objectives is getting today’s youth involved with establishing goals toward building a better future for themselves and their community. The cadets can be seen assisting residents at township events including concerts, the annual Soccer Tournament, and Marlboro Day.
The Marlboro Township Police Public Safety Cadets were formed in 2021. Before the Cadets were charted, the Marlboro Township Police Explorer Post was in existence. The Explorer Post, which fell under the auspices of the Boy Scouts of America, were founded in 1982 under the direction of Police Chief Joseph Walker and was started by Lt. Nicholas Barbella, Capt. Douglas Van Note, Ptlm. George Landau, and Cpl. Robert Tossie, Sr. Approximately 500 young men and women have been Explorers and since its inception, the Post has seen approximately 60 explorers go onto work in law enforcement including the Secret Service, Monmouth County Prosecutors Office, and the NYPD. There have been 16 explorers who have joined the ranks right here as Marlboro police officers. Currently the advisors who oversee and guide the cadets are Capt. Steve Levy, Sgt. John Bise, Ptlm. Callen Figarola, Ptlm. James Caulfield, Ofc. Bernadette Peter, Cpl. Frank Perrini, Ptlm. Matt Schuster, Ofc. Kelly Drum, Sgt. Frank Bianco and Ptlm. Dennis Stack.
Every other year, the Public Safety Cadets can attend a National Competitive Training Conference (NCTC) which is held at different locations throughout the country. In years past, the explorers have gotten the chance to attend the National Explorer Conference which was held in Boston Massachusetts, Fort Collins Colorado, Atlanta Georgia, Flagstaff Arizona and most recently in Gatlinburg, Tennesee. The explorers had an opportunity to meet posts from other states, compete in several different competitions, and attend workshops put on by the FBI, DEA and Secret Service.
